formatting should almost always work using the VFX itself...
I've attached two earlier postings from this list which might be
interesting for you. 
Once you have managed to get your DOS environment clean (boot Win95 with
CTRL pressed...)you could also try my vfrf tool to format your disks.

The laptop is running windows 95.  It is very picky about what disks 
it will format. I have about 15 dsdd disks and it only formatted one 
or two.  Can I use DS HD disks? I think if i tape the notch (the one 
opposite the write protect tab) they will be read as dsdd disks.

On the one or two disks i "formatted", i tried to copy files and it 
didnt work. Please give me step by step instructions for the 
transfer as i have followed whats on the documentation file but it 
doesnt seem to work.
