I had one of the first VFXsd's. It did the same thing. It eventually stopped working altogether. I'm not sure but this problem may be the infamous MOLEX connector problem. I would email thesoniq.com and ask him if he also thinks this is the Molex problem, and find out if he does the soldering fix for it.
I have done buisiness with The before. He's good.
