Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] VFXsd disks-how to use

Tim,

The short answer to your question is "yes"…….you dump then into your internal memory and “no” there is not another way of accomplishing what you are trying to do which is to play the demos. However you do need to use “caution” in this process if you are not familiar with the procedure.

First – you have to assume that whoever generated the disk(s) was loading the “Internal Sound Bank” patches associated with the sequences and/or songs that are also on the disk. If they didn’t, it won’t hurt anything but the sequence/song will probably sound like crap. The patches that were originally designated by the creator may not be the ones playing. You can only assume that whoever created the disks knew what they were doing. So much for the demo disks……..

Secondly -- I wouldn’t be so harsh as to say your Internal Sound Bank will be destroyed when you load the one off of the demo disk. (Ha) It will be replaced for sure. You should definitely save your current Internal Bank to a blank disk prior to loading the one off of the demo disk.

Thirdly and just as important if not more so - you should also make sure you save the sequences/songs that you currently have loaded on your VFX before loading the demos from the disk. Depending how the sequences/songs have been put on the disk, you could loose your currently loaded sequences/songs. If the demos are loaded on the disk as single, individual sequences/songs then your existing sequences/songs should be okay. Just make sure as you load them individually and that you load them in a “blank” location so as to not overwrite one of your existing sequences/songs. If, however, the songs/sequences are loaded on the disk as the “30 or 60 sequence/song” format, it will overwrite whatever you currently have in memory. Therefore you will loose all or a portion of the sequences/songs you have currently on the VFX.

So………

Back-up your Internal Bank to a blank disk. Also back-up your currently loaded sequences/songs on the same blank disk. Then load the Internal Bank from your demo disk. Then load the sequences/songs from the demo disk. The demos should now play properly, again assuming the disk creator created the disk properly.

When you’re finished and ready to return the VFX back to its original configuration, reload the Internal Bank and your sequences/songs that you saved to your disk.

And you thought this was going to be simple...(ha). Hope this is a little clearer than mud and good luck….

Alan

Subject: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] VFXsd disks-how to use

I have a number of VFX sd floppy disks with sounds patches
and demos- to use these do I need to dump them to the internal
memory? This destroys what is stored there. Is there any way to
use the disk sounds w/o losing the sounds in the internal bank?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
