Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Is a VFX to VFX-SD Upgrade Possible ?

2005-03-16 by Bob S.

Thanks Hans. It was just an idea.....I see more that I expected. I love
my VFX, especially the ease of creating sounds. I will not miss the
sequencer as I have enough of those, but only maybe the additional
waveforms. Maybe not enough to worry about since I don't intend on using
the VFX for drum sounds.

Has anyone made a loadable waveset for a ASR or TS that duplicates a VFX or
SD ? That could be a starting point for a non-fixed storage transwave
synth.....

I think you've to change the mainboard and drill additional holes in the
back for the AUX output which is not available on the VFX. A change of
ROMs is definitely not enough - to install a floppy drive you need a
connector on the mainboard which is n1ot there in a VFX.
Sorry to say that.

However, the VFX is great when you don't miss the sequencer.
Ahh, that takes me to another point: there are additional buttons for
the sequencer part... No way to add those!

If you really want an SD - buy one and sell the VFX. It's cheaper than
any upgrade could be --ok, I thought so some time ago and kept both...

Hi all

As a new user to the VFX (I have many other H/W synths) I am curious to
know if anyone has tried to do a VFX to VFX-SD upgrade ? Is the
hardware the same except for the ROMs and floppy, or are there other
differences ?

Thanks
