How to tell the difference between the VFXSD & the VFXSD
II:
Load the VFXSD INT sound bank. Press the 0 bank key. If the
top center patch says MEGA-PIANO then you have the VFXSD II. The
VFXSD does not have the MEGA-PIANO wave.

you tell what you have? I have a VFX-SD that was made in early 1990,
but was upgraded a few months after I bought it. I don't even
remember what the upgrade was for I think for some chip replacement it
is currently OS 2.1 ROM 2.0. Does this mean I have a SDII?
I just pulled a bunch of my old midi studio equipment out of storage
including the VFX-SD and am trying to relearn how to use it after over
10 years.
