Re: Famous VFX footage (Rick Wakeman's solo)

2006-02-22 by Joe Wright

Indeed, I do concur. This clip is Rick's solo from the ABWH concert that was broadcast live on Pay Per View in the US circa 1989. I have the entire show on VHS and really need to get around to capturing it to DVD. I saw ABWH perform at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA several months prior to the PPV broadcast. This solo by Rick appears to be the standard solo routine he was doing at the time. Don't know if or how much he may have deviated from it at other shows, but the PPV solo was identical to what I saw live. It was again impressive nonetheless. Unfortunately, Tony Levin had taken ill sometime before the PPV and was replaced by Jeff Berlin on bass. Tony and Bill Bruford performed an incredible percussive bass/drum dueling solo with Tony using his Finger Sticks. Wish there was a clip of that floating around! It was a great concert, just wish the PPV was from the show I went to.
If anyone is interested, I have a song called "Tempest..." which I did exclusively on my VFXsd (except the guitar and vocal). Take a listen at http://www.myspace.com/humanbehavior7 and let me know what you think. The VFXsd besides being an extremely powerful synthesizer workstation, it's one of the most versatile controller keyboards ever designed. I've been in love with it ever since I bought it new when it was first released, had the Mega Piano and expanded memory installed shortly thereafter. Thanx!
