tested it out and it was fully working no problems. I left it in my
rack for a few weeks before properly integrating into my patch bay.
Then when I turned it on LCD lit up for a second and then everything
went off. I checked the power supply and two fuses had blown. I
replaced the fuses and then it happened again.
I assumed there was a short on one of the boards that should be easy
to fix by an experienced Ensoniq technician so I sent it to the
TheSoniq in california.
I didn't hear anything from the guy for a month until I started to
inquire. Then he told me that the power supply had failed and so had
the analog board so it would cost $265 to replace (not repair). I had
assumed from initial correspondences that he had a flat $70 repair
charge but that the components would not be too much (especially the
cost of replacing components vs. replacing whole boards).
Then he e-mailed me to say the digital board had a short too and also
needs replacing.
So a piece of pro audio gear like the DP4+ had all of it's boards
spontaneously short out??? This is totally unacceptable in my opinion.
Now I am in the position where the total repair costs are going to be
more than the unit is worth if it was working to begin with (i.e. I
may as well just buy a new used one).
Has anyone else had simmilar experiences? Anyone else used the guy at
TheSoniq for repairs?"
