I have it and it's very good indeed...

the different approach is the main idea to reverse engineering a sound before you try to make it from scratch... so you also get some software tools for sound analisys and stuf like that...

I don't think you throw away your money if you buy it, anyway soundonsound has very good synthesis articles, but no patches 'how to'... http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/allsynthsecrets.htm
