In my main rig, I use an MPC60 for sequencing because of all the MIDI connections and options, plus how drum sounds in them. I personally think MPCs are the best Hardware for sequencing. But the reason I like Ensoniq sequencers is because they are quick & easy to use. I can take my VFX-SD and some headphones and jam anywhere and feel comfy doing it. Most current keyboards for one arn't true synthesizers (they are romplers) & there sequencers can difficult to use. So by the time you get the hang of it your inspiration is gone, or you need to do some menu diving (example some people complain Motifs are complicated sequencers) With Ensoniqs, it Super Simple to get your ideas out quick. Plus its super convenient. You can do everything w/ one keyboard. --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, "somethingkillingyou" <somethingkillingyou@...> wrote: > > I really like my sd-1 32. > > I like its sound, its synthesis engine and modulation options are vast and particular; you've got lots of tools for sound-creation... > I like the fact that I can use it to store sysex from other devices (my pc soundcard, a focusrite saffire pro-40 is very crappy when using sysex, so I can't store sysex messages on my pc)... > > btw I've never used the sd-1's sequencer, and I DON'T use software sequencers (I actually HATE software)! > > why? here's why: I have a quasimidi raven and a quasimidi sirius; > those both have pattern sequencers with drumgrids for drum parts and step sequencers for synth parts, plus they have arpeggiators that are recordable in the sequencer. > > I don't want to be a dick, but what's the advantage in using sd-1 / vfx-sd sequencers? > > obviously I'm not familiar with those ensoniq sequencers, anyway I don't think they would be any improvement over the sequencers that I use! > > I don't think they would be in any way easier to use, and I think also performance-wise they would be inferior... of course sd-1 sequencer has more tracks, but that's about it... or not!? > > what's so good about ensoniq sequencers? > > > greetings > > Fabio > > --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, "svbeats" <svbeats@> wrote: > > > > I'm the same way. Im all about using hardware sequencers. My MPC60 is my favorite piece of gear. One of the reasons I love the old Ensoniqs is because they are real synths and have awesome sequencers on um. It sucks Im waiting for sequencer floppy, but when buying the keyboard, I used it as a good selling point to lower the price. I told them "look its broken, the sequencer doesn't work!!" The store luckily didn't educate there employee's on Ensoniqs. haha > > > > Ive tried sequencing on computers but it just never seemed natural to me. Its probably because Im on a computer all day at work. I rarely get a good hardy laugh when reading thru posts so this was a real treat. Oopsie, I forgot: Dwayne, thanks for being such a sour pus and creating such a fun thread, ya cranky little turd!! LMAO! > > > > > > One other note, SV....as much as I hate going back to being serious...(hehehe) if you haven't used the VFX-SD sequencer yet---dude, you are gonna fall in love. DON'T underestimate the power of the dark....I mean the sequencer. If it weren't for my Korg Oasys (and other newer synths) I would still rely totally on the SD-1 (same sequencer as yours, basically) for all my compositions. I know anyone with a computer in their studio must be laughing at me but I am way old school when it comes to sequencing. Everyone in Korg Forums (except for me) hates the sequencer on the Oasys...lol. On my CD, what I am doing is sending a bunch of my old sequence tracks to the Oasys' audio...then I throw a few more things into the mix and Boom Badda Bing.... > > > > > > In any case, I still find myself returning to the SD-1 for creating songs.
