Speaking as an electronics engineer, and someone
who repairs synths a lot (especially Ensoniq) that statement is rubbish. The
only reason people solder a battery accross in parallel first is so they wont
lose their stored sounds/sequences, or so they can just cut the old battery out.
This makes it a quick and easy replacement.

ROM1 also, which I guess means replacement of ICs on the board. Has
anyone heard of this battery replacement method, or anything
resembling this type of process?
