Patches and discussion for Ensoniq VFX family

Thanks. I do remember being told that it was upgraded but I thought they were talking about just the sequencer memory. Does anyone know which chips I need to move and/or where on the board they are located?

the maga piano waves is the extended rom of the sd if your first vfx had the upgrade to the sd1 status as said then it would of had the extended rom so you would need to add the extended rom sounds chip to get the required sounds the upgrade would have also had the 2 rom os chips of the sd1 also so you would need to cange them also you need to look on the os chips for the revision of os and the rom wave chips for there revision this will

it might be that your new synth has the standard rom set and that when you are using the sysex for your old synth it substitutes the rom sounds for the 1,s that are missing
 
its also the same for the sq1 series the sq2+ and the sq1+32 and ks88 and ks32 have the extended roms where as the sq1 sq2 have the stanfdard roms so when you pitch the same preset via sysex it substitutes the sounds with others so the sound is different to the 1,s with the extra rom waves
 
ensoniq did this alot with there synths and as the synths became later revisions they had les of the rom sets of the last series the sq1 retained most of the vfx transwaves but the ts 10 recieved even less of the trans waves

Did you but your first VFXsd new? I seem to remember Ensoniq offering an 'upgrade kit' to make the VFXsd into (nearly) an SD-1. If your first was upgraded then you may need to move the chips. I can offer no more help...never seen one. Just that my stock VFXsd has no mega piano waves.
