The VFX and VFX-SD (along with their successors the SQR, SQ1, SQ2, TS12, etc) are very powerful and programmable synthesizers. What I've read on forums and listserves these days leads me to believe that most current VFX et al users purchased their unit because it was available at such a cheap price and intend to use it for 80's sounds. My recommendation is to learn how to program your own patches, Ensoniq synthesizers offer flexibility uncommon to most synthesizers. You will be handsomely rewarded for doing so :).
