richard,
i'm losing segments [like the number "9" looks like a reversed 
question mark, "8" looks like a "6", etc.] the display is still 
brite, but the segments are going. right now, it's just a 
couple.....that's why i threw out the question about replacing the 
LED, hoping that some brave soul may have attempted or successfully 
replaced the LED with a non-standard [backlit] LCD.  i imagine that 
it could be done, since both displays use similar voltages. i believe 
there are issues with the soft keys around the display, which i hope 
can be overcomed---any hardware hackers? i'm not afraid to fire-up my 
soldering iron..........or rewrite some eeprom code........TIA,

> Hummmmm. are you missing segemnts or just fading? if it's just 
fading 98% chance it's not the display it's the diodes on the power 
supply and I wouldnt use the unit agian until they are fixed. You can 
burn the CPU if you keep running it that way.
