Presets

Presets

2004-01-20 by bobratica1020

On page 2-6 in the owners manual in the 1st paragraph it states that
Their are 20 presets in Rom memory. On page 2-8 2nd paragraph it
states you can save presets to internal and cart only, nothing about
Rom. Which is it,can you copy to Rom or is that just a temporary
buffer or something, when you try to copy from this mode it seems to
overwrite the presets in interior mode. Something doesn't make sense
because one page says you have 20 presets for each, cart, Rom, and
Int. and the other page says only cart and int. Which is right, and
why. Thanks

There are 20 presets in ROM (Read-Only memory), which are permanent, and
cannot be written to. These would be referred to as "factory presets" on
most other synths. There are 20 presets in Internal RAM (Random-Access
memory), which you can write over and save your own presets to. There are
20 presets on a cartridge, which, if it's a "Stor-Cart" or RAM cartridge,
you can save to.

Hope this makes some sense.

Here's my two cents. ROM = Read-Only-Memory.
This is the hard memory, we can't write to it.
I've only been able to set presets to the INT Memory.

Internal refers to RAM.

ROM stands for "Read Only Memory" and you cannot write new information
to it. It comes preset with the "Sounds" & "Presets" ensoniq felt the
best choice available. You cannot change them.
RAM stands for "Random Access Memory" and you can write your own
"Sounds" and "Presets" which can be saved, here.

These are your options (For both Voice and Preset Access)

Internal ROM Number 0 (Read Only) 60 sounds (Will be there, even after
crash) Displays as Bank "RM0"
Internal ROM Number 1 (Read Only) 60 sounds (Will be there, even after
crash) Displays as Bank "RM1"
Internal RAM (Read Only) 60 sounds (You can write sounds to) Displays
as Bank "INT0"
Cartridge ROM (Read only) 60 Sounds (Will be there, even after crash)
Cartridge RAM (Read Only) 60 sounds (You can write sounds to)
Internal ROM Number 0 (Read Only) 20 Presets (Will be there, even after
crash) Displays as Bank "RM0" Banks A and B
Internal ROM Number 1 (Read Only) 20 Presets (Will be there, even after
crash) Displays as Bank "RM1" Banks A and B
Internal RAM (Read Only) 20 Presets (You can write sounds to) Displays
as Bank "INT0" Banks A and B
Cartridge ROM (Read only) 20 Presets (Will be there, even after crash)
Banks A and B
Cartridge RAM (Read Only) 60 sounds (You can write sounds to) Banks A
and B

The Difference between Internal RAM and Cartridge RAM is that Internal
RAM is reliant on the internal Backup battery working, and will likely
be lost if the SD-1 crashes. So back up important stuff, regularly.
Batteries last for around 5 years. Mine has lasted around 11 years, but
is just starting to give me the warning to save after every power off,
and to replace battery.

So you can record to Internal RAM (Bank INT0 in Sound menu, Bank INT in
Preset Menu.) and Cartridge RAM (Not ROM)

I hope this helps...

Ralph. :-)
