SD-1 Sequencer keeping time

SD-1 Sequencer keeping time

2004-07-30 by mishon66@aol.com

On the issue of having trouble sequencing in time, I always sequence at 120 bpm even if the part is to be played faster. You will have plenty of head room to speed up the seq and this is a good pace for most all parts.
Always use the click track! listen closely for the click track and make sure your first key down or note played is on the LOUD tone which is the beginning of the 4/4 count or what ever count your using.

Make sure your VFXSD is setup so that when you press REC/PLAY the click track starts but the seq is not recording until the first key down or note played.

I use this setup to my advantage by starting the REC/PLAY and listening to the click track and tapping out the parts on the case above the keys, when I am ready and have the beat down I will jump to the keys.

On Quantizing when I do use it, I use 1/16 for most of the parts I sequence, this will allow for a loose sequence style to be quantized in time.

Your working with one of the best hardware sequencers ever made and there are many options and ways to lay down the tracks, sequencing is just like anything else it takes time and practice.

I believe the VFXSD line has WAY more features and quality than say the Roland MC 300/500 and 50mkll or Alesis MMT8, there are dozens of hardware sequencers out there and I have used many of them but always found the VFXSD line the best.

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] SD-1 Sequencer keeping time

Thanks to everyone for all the response. Now that I
know it can be done I'll keep reading the manual. I
must be missing it due to reading too fast.
