cant load OS onto floppy

cant load OS onto floppy

2004-08-22 by miles_philip

hello again
i appreciate the information everyone has supplied me with, but im
afraid im still having problems. i have the geiblers software albiet
the shareware version. i also have some disk utilities, i have
formated disks in the VFX and am trying to load onto the formatted
disk through geiblers software in DOS mode and it still doesnt work.
if there is some special way to load the sequencer OS onto a floppy i
would very much like to know what it is
Cheers
Miles

Hello,
I had the same problems a few day ago.
Actually I find the original disk to load the sequencer
I think the problem is the windows version
Geiblers software is made in the time of windows 95
I did not try it but I think that can have a solution
So searching for an older computer with windows 95 or older.
I have also used this link for downloading. It is very easy to use but also doesn't work at my place
maybe it works at your place
Bye
René

Hello,
Someone was writing me with the same notes (the windows version problem) but maybe this is a solution:
Check your ROM version by pressing Preset + Master. If it is ROM 2.0 then the sequencer OS 2.1 must work and you've a different problem: most likely your OS disk is either damaged or has been created the wrong way. How did you set the disk up? You say the VFX hangs, is there any error message? If not, try to create a new OS disk using EDE.
What OS do you have on your PC? EDE is very picky and won't run properly under a DOS cmd shell of Windows: use a DOS boot floppy.
In an earlier post I wrote:
"There are other sites to download the ede109.exe shareware program, e.g. http://www.soundcentral.com/ (look under Ensoniq-> Util). You should be aware that programs like this accessing 720k floppies (formatted with 800k by using 10 sectors per track) cannot be used under NT, w2k, or XP (i.e. anything NT based). Even under Win98 (and I guess it would be the same for Win95 and Me) you have to follow the following procedure: press CTRL while booting Windows to get into the extended start menu and choose 'Command Prompt' (or similar, I can't tell the wording 'cause I got a German system - but it should be option 5). Then you get a 'clean' DOS environment which allows the program to write the disk properly. Opening a command prompt window or even 'restart in DOS mode' would fail: the program pretends to work, however it would write only 9 sectors per track... which leaves you with a messy disk."
If you have a NT based system look at the following:
"I just found out that the following DOES work:
Create an XP (MS-DOS) startup disk and boot using this disk. To create a startup disk right click A:\, choose format and check the 'create MS-DOS startup disk' option.
If you have a FAT32 partition on your harddisk (which is a good idea anyway to store your valuable VFX image files) this will be the C: drive when you boot from the floppy.
E.g. you've created a FAT32 partition which could be let's say E: in normal operation while C: is NTFS and D: is your CD-ROM.
Now create a folder VFX on E: and put images, EDE or other tools into this folder...
After booting from the floppy you will be able to change to C:\VFX and run EDE and everything works fine.
Having a disk partition has some advantages over working with a RAM drive: you can permanently store your files and access them also in XP mode (after booting regularly) and do things like burning images created with EDE on CD-ROM or send sysex files via MIDI to your VFX etc.
If you have problems to create a FAT32 partition (you probably have if you don't know what a FAT32 partition is) better ask a PC guru to do it for you. It's not dangerous but I prefer not to desrcibe things which could put you in deep trouble if don't really know what you are doing (for the guru: Bootit NG works fine and is free).
Overall this is the most convenient way to deal with the good old stuff.
BTW, this should also work with NT, w2k, and Me."

I hope this helps.

Re: cant load OS onto floppy

2004-09-04 by luvmyhonda2

I just went to Cathargo and picked up the OS 3.0 download. I did get
it to create a floppy. Unfortunatley I can not seem to find the 3.0
OS on the floppy. Am I missing something here ?? Where do I find the
file on the floppy I created.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Vic
