Sound / Seq. Question

Sound / Seq. Question

2004-10-13 by adolfo dias

Greetings to all,
Today I was playing with the SD-1 and made 2 sounds. But when I send them to Seq. (to be able to assign them channel numbers and use them with Cakewalk), they sounded diferent. They lost some efects. When I chance to Sound mode, they play allright.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? (I don't have a manual :( )

Cheers

Sounds like the effects aren't being triggered. When the effects are removed from some of the sounds, they sound drastically different.
Perhaps that's the problem?

RE: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Sound / Seq. Question

2004-10-14 by Rodney Mcdonald

The problem is that your sequence has a different effect.

Basically, in this case, you have to copy the effects of the sound to the
sequence to get the same effect as the dominate patch.

Got to the FX of the patch (patch/voice parameters)
Copy
Go the to sequence and select the patch (you may have to put it on track
one, but I can't remember fur sure).
Select the sequence effects button
Paste

The steps may not be exact, since I don't have it in front of me
(unfortunately).

I may not have this exactly right, but since there's one main FX bus on the
VFX, you have to decide which of the primary sounds in your sequence you
want as the dominate FX. Then choose the alternate FX bus on the other
patches.

You don't have to do this every time - a short cut would be to select the
'main' patch first, then create new sequence, and you'd be set mon! Another
route is use the AUX output and go through another FX box.

This should get you goin'

Re: Sound / Seq. EFFECTS Question

2004-10-14 by alfonsmaco

Hello Adolfo and Michael:

In addition to your mail concerning Effects in mode Patch and mode
Sequence, I'd like to remember that:

- It's true that the Sequence can (but not necessarily) use a
different Effect than the Patch. That may cause that the Patch in
the Seq. sounds different than the original one. You have to decide
if you prefer the Seq. Effect or the Patch Effect.

- If you are inside a Seq. and you want to "Replace Program" WITH
ITS OWN EFFECT (that is, the Seq. will use the Patch effect), you
can use a shortcut to avoid Copy&Paste operation. Just do as
indicated in Reference Manual, Page 5-8:

"To copy a program along with its effect into the sequence
(replacing the current sequence effect with the one in the program),
follow the procedure:
1)Press "TRACKS 1-6" or "TRACKS 7-12" and select the track to change
2)Press and hold "REPLACE PROGRAM"
3)While holding down "REPLACE PROGRAM", press Performance "EFFECTS"
4)Use the Bank buttons and the soft buttons to pick a sound. Each
time you pick a new sound its effect will become the sequence effect.
5)Press "REPLACE PROGRAM" again to exit Replace Program mode and
return to the Tracks page..."

If you skip point 3), the Sequence effect will not be replaced.

- If you are into SONG mode, remember that the Song can use its own
Effect, or can use the Effect of each sequence.
This is set with the "SEQ CONTROL" button: press it twice and
choose "SONG STEP EFFECT=SONG/SEQ".
As you know, choosing SEQ may cause a slight delay between the
Sequences while playing the Song (see other previous mails.

The VFX has only one Effects Processor, and we have to deal with
it...

(Stupid advice: Even if you have to pay more than you would like,
try to get a Reference Manual! It's really good and explains
subjects and details that are difficult to learn by yourself...
Meanwhile, don't hesitate to ask us any question)

Hasta pronto.

Thank you Alfons Martinez, Michael and everyone who helped me.
Your tips shure made sense and got me in the right track.

Your advice Alfons, to get a manual is a good advice. I plan to do so as soon as I save enough money (being a non working student is kind of hard). I will ASAP :)

Now I can use the sound with the efect I made in cakewalk with no problem. Thank you.

On the other hand, my SD-1 screen is giving me problems :( It's fades out and goes "black". If I pressure the middle of the screen it will turn on. I hope this doesn't get worse and shuts down for good :( I'm new to the SD-1 synth, and I'm loving it. I'm very glad I "met" you guys :)

Cheers :)

PS: Sorry about my English. It's not my native language and sometimes it's hard for me to explain myself :)
