Latest SD-1 OS

Latest SD-1 OS

2004-10-11 by Michael C Lesko

Hi all,
Sandro mentioned that he just installed OS 4.10 for the SD-1. Is this the most recent OS? I have 3.0 and thought I had the latest OS. Perhaps
someone can advise me on this? Thanks.
Michael

Greetings friends,
My name is Sandro and I'm from Portugal. I just got one Ensoniq SD-1 and I'm "in love" with it :). Today, I managed to get the disk drive working (It was broken) and I installed the OS ver 4.10. I'm really getting "into it", but I still can't figure out how the sequencer works (I don't have the manual :( ). I'm using it with Cakewalk Pro 9 but I'm planning using one Atari 1040 ST with the free software Master Tracks Pro.
I'm into Cyberpunk/Electro-Industrial and I really think I can get some great sounds from this machine. Because I'm new to the world of Hardware synths, can someone point me to the right directions on what to read, were to look for so that I can enjoy this synth 100%?
I hope to have fun in here and to share my thoughts and read from you all.
Best regards from Portugal

Hi Michael,

OS 4 is used for the SD-1 32 voice. OS 3 for your normal SD-1 16 voice.

Re: Latest SD-1 OS

Actually, I just recently went throgh all of this for my SD-1. There
were actually only 2 versions of the keyboard (21 voice and 32
voice). (And to my knowledge only 2 OS's 3.0 and 4.1)... It is
possible to upgrade an SD-1 with the 21 voice architecture (3.0 OS)
to the 4.10 OS. To do this, you must change out the EEPROM's before
the 4.1 software will work. Relatively a cheap job to do as the OS
including the EEPROM's is like $40 from Route 66. Syntaur also sells
these kits and I believe is the same price after a $10 core charge to
return your old 3.0 EEPROMS.

You will have to check your SD-1 Ver to see what it has in it first
before anything else is done. There are a few keystokes to do this:
(I'll have to look this up) If anyone else knows what to push to
Check OS, please reply...

The only question unanswered to me is whether or not the OS 4.1 makes
a 21 voise SD-1 into a 32 voice unit. I believe the answer is yes,
but I am not sure. Does anyone know this answer ??

Hope this helps..

Regards,
Vic

The upgrade does not make the unit 32 voice, we do have these in stock at $30.00 including shipping and no core charge at www.Route66studios.com
