Hi all, Anyone know of a freeware PC editor/librarian for the SD-1? I'd also like to know about any others that have to be purchased. Thanks in advance. Michael

Thanks Alan but I did have a chance before to
download Soundlib and I can't seem to get it to
load sounds to my SD-1. I'm certain that I've
configured everything properly however under the
"Configure" menu, Soundlib can't recognize my midi
out connection but it does see the midi in...???
I've set up the profile correctly for the VFX
(SD-1) and my Yamaha midi interface and driver tested
perfect. All my other porgrams don't seem to
have a problem recognizing both midi in, out and thru,
only Soundlib. I connect through the USB port of my IBM Thinkpad T23 with a Yamaha UX16
midi
interface.
Anyone have an idea what might be wrong?

I
don't use Soundlib to send patches to the VFX. The midi interface of both
Soundlib and Vfxlib turned out to be not very reliable.
However, you might look at it that way:
Soundlib is a great facility to archive your patches. You can easily
search certain sounds, attach comments, mark your favourites, etc., all reason
enough to use it.
Now
comes the trick how to get the sounds to the VFX.
1.
Open a new bank (Bank->New)
2.
Write the patches you want to the bank window at the right hand side. Always
mark a patch on the left and a place on the right side and click WRITE. You can
select more than one patch at the same time. Multiple selections work the same
way as in Windows with holding either SHIFT or Ctrl for subsequent or non
subsequent choices.
3. Write the complete bank to your hard disk -
Save or SaveAs... - you then have a .syx file
4.
To create a sysex file with just one patch choose Save single patch.
You can only select patches from the right side to write patches, i.e. you must
first go through steps 1 and 2.
Once
you have the sysex files you want, single or 60 patch bank files, use any midi
dump program that works for you to send them to your VFX. MIDIOX is a nice
freeware that does it really fine on all systems. I've tried
both Soundlib on 98, w2k and XP and all works excellent.
VFXLIB
comes from the same author and can be used to rearrange bank files, replace
sounds, move them around or rename them. I think you can also create single
sound sysex files with VFXLIB.
