vfxsd calibration

vfxsd calibration

2005-11-13 by Suzanne Turner

I have had my much loved workstation for12 years now, with much work
expressive sounds and compositions.
But now I can't access my sounds our play the keyboard.
When I power up she stops and asks for recalibrate or ignore.
When i press recalibrate nothing happens it is though it's stuck.
If i press ignore i can play all my saved data from the sequencer but no
sounds from the keyboard.
Can any one help. Is there a different way to fire up.
VFXSD owner.
I also had a modification done when I bought it,she has a SD1 mother board
in it as well.
Many thanks kev

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] vfxsd calibration

The recalibrate issue's due to the way the keyboard's wired.
The last gasp routine- power the VFX off and on seven times in a row.
The seventh time, you'll get a reinitialize prompt. Say yes...
WARNING: when you reinitialize, all your banks, etc. will go back to
the factory presets. Back up everything before you reinitialize.

It needs professinal help....the problem is a well known and documented issue with interconnections between boards. The solution for many has been to solder the connections directly instead of using the sockets....see the Service Bulletin in the Files section of the group......

I've tried this but still no luck.
Also I saw on a web site that if you solder the 2 mother boards together
under the keyboard it should resolve the problem .BUT NO IT DON'T.
What else can I do.
Iam getting nowhere fast.
Isn't there an ensoniq repairer anywhere?

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] vfxsd calibration

2005-11-17 by JDM Zangari

I've had luck in the past for parts and major repairs with TheSoniq. Got parts once, sent unit for repair once. Check it out on the web first, more info there. Only complete repair shop I know. I also have a service man for many more common repairs near Reading Pennsylvania. Don't know if either of these are close to you. TheSoniq ships worldwide. Can't find name and address of Pennsylvania repair shop at the moment.

You might want to consider a replacement vfx-sd while you are getting this one repaired....Ebay price is less than $300 right now......you can always sell it later....

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] vfxsd calibration

2005-11-19 by Ellen Rizzo

I have had the same problem with my vfxsd for years. No keyboard. I have
been using the sequencer through another controller and the disk drive,
though. And I agree getting another one on ebay or in wantads might be the
best thing. I picked up a vfx this way that works great--but no disk drive
on the vfx. So I currently use it and back up all my presets in cartridges
and save them to disk on the keyboard-less vfxsd's drive.
I would be interested in restoring the vfxsd, which has been through a lot
of performances, travel, and general bumping around. Would like to know
more about theSoniq. I also need to get my ESQ-1 fixed, too. It's a good
controller keyboard. Any ideas where to go for help? Will theSoniq address
the ESQ-1? I live in the Northeast---thanks. Ellen

AW: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] vfxsd calibration

2006-01-18 by Hans Artmann

I've fixed 2 keyboards and both were a success. No problem since. I've
posted a pdf on the file section showing all details in pictures.
