New to VFX-SD.. is this behavior normal with sounds?

2001-07-15 by bensonh27@yahoo.com

Hello,

I recently purchased a VFX-SD1 .. this is my first synth of any
kind. There are certain sounds ( I would say about 85%) that exhibit
strange behavior.. they seem to occasionally switch an octave down..
or at least half an octave.. for example.. if you just hit the same
key in succession about 10 times.. about 2 or 3 out of the 10 the
note will change pitch. Is this normal? I certainly hope not.

Some of the sounds do not display this behavior .. but very few.

I have reset the system.. (the hard reset where you hold down presets
and hit the top left soft button).. and have reloaded the System..
with the same results.

I bought this unit at a pawn shop.. it appears to be in great
condition.. but I just don't know!

Any help to a new user would be much appreciated.

Tom

Hi Tom, do you have the specific patch names of some
of the sounds, that would help matters...could be the
previous owner was a superb programmer, you've got
some really great things happening (by the sounds of
it). If you press the two grey buttons beside the mod
and pitch wheels, does the same effect happen (when
you press down a note)? If your machine does check out
okay, I'll trade you some "normal" patches in exchange
for what you've aquired, via floppy disks. Try the
piano sounds, does it happen there too? Cheers, Keith
