Sending patch changes

Sending patch changes

2007-01-29 by Neal

Hi everyone, how y'all doing? I have a question; I want my VFXsd to
send patch change messages to to my SQ-R and Korg X5DR. The VFXsd is my
master contoller, I have the two rack synths daisy chained via MIDI.
Let's say I find a patch combination with one patch on the VFX, a patch
on the SQ-R, and a patch on the korg. How can I tell the VFX I want to
save this "Combination". I'm thinking in the sequence header area but
can't think it through to where I can make it do this. IS it possible?
I have global in the racks set to accept program change messages, but
all I've been able to accomplish is making the SQ change banks using
the six buttons in the display. there has to be a better way! Thanks,
Neal K.

RE: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Sending patch changes

2007-01-29 by Alfons Martinez

Hello Neal,

I had before a similar midi setup (VFX, Rack-1, Rack-2) and I used to do it
like this:

- Create a new Preset (remember a preset can have 3 patches)

- Assign to Patch 1: the VFX sound, adjusting MIDI=INT in the preset midi
page

- Assign to Patch 2: the Rack-1 sound, adjusting MIDI=EXT, MIDI channel=X
(the channel for Rack-1), MIDI Program=XX (the program you want in Rack-1)

- Assign to Patch 3: the Rack-2 sound, adjusting MIDI=EXT, MIDI channel=Y
(the channel for Rack-2), MIDI Program=YY (the program you want in Rack-2)

Then you should save this Preset (give it a clear name), and you can use it
when you need. When ypu select it, it will send midi changes to the other
racks.

Of course, you can create as many presets as you need.

For a more complex setups, you can do it in a similar way with sequences (up
to 12 midi channels).

Hope this helps.

Goodbye from Barcelona.

Alfons
