SQ1 PLUS and Rom Card

SQ1 PLUS and Rom Card

2007-02-07 by lovecolour

I was able to secure a reasonably clean SQ1 Plus 32 Voice, and THE
Ensoniq Ex-2 ROM card. Yet I can not find any ifno on either one. Is
the Rom card so rare as tonot see it on google search? Any idea of
where to get a manual for the board?

Syntaur carries a manual as well as sounds and some other bits:

Thanks. the board didnt work out as I hoped. So I will take reasonable
offers on the Ensoniq EX-2 rom card in case! I didnt write down what
sound waves it added - but it did work flawlessly in the SQ1+32.

Your new laptop can certainly boot from a USB memory stick: make a bootable stick with e.g. freeDOS and put your Giebler program on it.
There are how-to's on the net for bootable sticks. And, other than with a floppy disk you've got enough space on the stick to hold your files.
There's no other way to make this program run than running it under DOS.

and:
don't forget, you can't write Ensoniq floppies unless you've got an INTERNAL floppy drive (or one DOS can handle). A USB floppy drive won't work.
If you need to know more about it we can take this offline.
However, file conversion will work the way I described and you can transfer the sequences via midi.

find someone who runs windows 98 as the newer OSs don't access the
floppy drive in the proper way for the GIEBLER prg to work.

GM and VFX

2007-03-02 by Johan Halmen

Arranging sounds in a VFX so that they match GM wouldn't be very hard, except for the drums. Does
anyone know a convenient way to do that? Is it even possible to create a drum patch, where at least the
most common drums would be in their GM equivalent numbers? I've also thought of some kind of
converting software, which would change back and forth from GM midi file to VFX midi file on a
computer.

I use mainly my VFX-SD with my Micrologic Fun sequencer program and need occasionally to mix with
GM midi.

Have a look into DRUM-MAPS - section 9 of the manual

Um, in my manual (version 1.12) section 9 is about pitch tables. Nothing about drum maps.

You are right, DRUM-MAPS came with the SD-1.
So you will have to go with a SW solution. You can always use MIDI-OX to do the Mapping - it's not very convenient to create the setup just not like in Cubase or Cakewalk - but it works.
On www.midiox.com you'll also find MIDI Yoke which is a MIDI patchbay in SW. With this driver you are able to route your sequencers output to MIDI-OX and MIDI-OX can map the drum notes and output to your SD.
You can also have a look at eDrum Midi Mapper which would do the same job as MIDI-OX.
This is all freeware for non-commercial use.

The Geibler tools also has a mapping function between Ensoniq and SMF's.
