sd1 dead!

2007-10-07 by tjiyf

Have been using my SD1 since 1991, at a gig last night it appears to
have died, i switch on and the only thing that happens is each end of
the led screen dimly lights up, no disk drive or anything, anyone got
any ideas?. Have got another gig next sat,PLEASE HELP!.

Sounds like the 5 volt power supply is gone or an internal fuse is blown, but probably the supply because you are getting some supply voltage to the display.
Unless you know or are a good technician who is ready to jump on it and repair/replace the supply....it sounds like you better find another vfx, vfx-sd or sd1 to use for your weekend gig until you repair your 16 year old sd1 baby.....

Internal fuse, almost certainly. This was the symptom I had when mine
went. It's an easy fix.

... thesoniq.com is probably your best bet if it's not the fuse.

If it is a blown fuse and it blows again after replacing it, try unplugging all cables to the power supply, turn it off and plug in the cables one by one turning it off each time and turn it back on with one more cable plugged in. If the fuse blows after plugging something in you will know what is blowing the fuse. if it blows when no cables are plugged in it is the power supply. I found my SD1 at a garage sale with the same system and found that the floppy drive cable was pinched against something and blowing the fuse
