New to group; many questions

I have an Ensoniq VFX-SD but with no OS disk. I have been trying to create one with the instruction which I have found through this site, but am getting errors on EDE utility. I am now looking at just connecting this to my iMac or PC (XP) via a MIDI-USB cable and am trying to find some drivers to accomplish either of these. The cable I am using M-AUDIO has drivers, but of course non are for the Ensoniq. I would like to have connectivity to both as I am investigating each as a music platform. Let me know if anyone has experience in connecting this method. If you have any other ways to connect let me know as well.
