basics of midi transfers from SD-1 to Win PC

Hello, ya'll I've pulled my sd-1 out of the closet a couple of months ago, and have been shifting from spending time recording guitar compositions to doing SD workshop compositions. But I'm new to MIDI and what it takes to make it user friendly. I have successfully used a MIDI converter from a guitar to the sd, and I've operated the vsti's in my computer from the sd, and I've gotten a sysex dump of all the current sequencer data onto my PC. But what I want to to is get a sequence track, or sequence from the SD recorded onto my computer as MIDI data, which I can then see a representation of in a MIDI editor and edit. When I try to record from the SD thru a USB sound card, nothing happens. I also wanted to find out if the sysex dump data can be converted into MIDI with any kind of free program. Most of my MIDI books are in storage up north so I'm kind of going hit or miss. Thanks for any info.
