VFX-SD waveforms mixed up

VFX-SD waveforms mixed up

2011-09-19 by erin

I recently acquired a VFX-SD. Many of the waveforms seem to be mixed up. The gate-kick sounds like a snare, the room-kick like a double cymbal hit. The congas are cymbals as well. The megapiano is a series of percussion hits followed by about 5 seconds of snare hits. Also, the sine-wave has a noticeable click upon release.

Are the waveforms stored on the ROM and is it possible to reload them or does the ROM need to be replaced? Could this be some sort of mapping problem? The ROM was physically upgraded to 2.00 20 years ago.

I have re-initialized and reloaded all the sounds from disk.

Any help is appreciated,
Erin

P.S. Howdy, I'm new.

sounds like the os is mapping the rom memory wrong
on the sound rom there is a memory table from the
best way to no the memory mapping is play an alls wave and start it from 0
it will play the whole contents of rom in a sequence of samples this is how the samples are mapped that is there address in the rom table
;
the os when choosing a sample it will look up the table info and go to that memory location
the os look up table could be corupt update the os first

The look-up table is contained in the EPROM OS? I have updated the sequencer OS, but this has not helped.

I am confused about the "Mega-Piano Waves". I have a wave called megapiano under piano-sounds, but no corresponding program. Does this mean I have a VFXSDII or was the megapiano wave included from he beginning.

Thank you,
Erich

Erin
Are all of your banks mixed up? Check them all and every sound, it almost sounds like you have the wrong sound set for the model your using.

The VFX series is backwards compatible but the VFXSD can't play every sound from the SD1 series and so it will sub sounds and this will not sound correct.

Re: VFX-SD waveforms mixed up

2011-09-21 by erin

I will call you tomorrow. Thanks again for the help.

The banks seem to be intact. The problem sounds are in the piano-sound (every piano wave), drum-sound, and multi-drum wave categories. Everything else works fine.

I was wrong about the mega-piano patch. In bank 0 of the "internal" sounds, the second sound is mega-piano. Since these are writable, I don't think that means much.
