Sound Librarian And VFX patches

Sound Librarian And VFX patches

2003-04-02 by roegster

Greetings from Sunny Tampa Bay Area (Go Bucs)
Just wondering if any or all of you in this group know about the
free
Sound Librarian and the multitude of patches for the VFX. I first
discovered the Sound Lib at a Yamaha DX 7 site in the U.K. I had
aquired
a DX 7 and was looking for the sound cartridges when a search brought
me to: http://www.thedx7.co.uk/index.html
I downloaded the Librarian and some DX 7 patches. This was before I
even got the VFX. Well, I ended up with 10,509 different patches for
my DX 7.
After I got the VFX, I noticed that the Sound Librarian had a
setting for Ensoniq VFX. Imagine my delight when I found that the
system exclusive would midi in new patches to the VFX. I followed a
few links and found:
http://www.cs.colorado.edu/users/mccreary/vfx/vfx_archive.html
But the one that really kicked it was:
http://neopatch.hypermart.net/

I now have 1484 different voices for my VFX. After fixing the
calibration error problem by hardwiring the circuit boards under the
keys themselves,
I have had trouble free operation and MONSTER patches. I now use the
VFX for Mellotron voices, ARP 2600 mono lead, Genesis Abacab organ,
the list goes on and on. Well, didn't know if you all knew about this,
but I wanted to share this with my fellow VFX users. Any questions, or
comments, e-mail me at: roegster@...
                                              Best Wishes
                                                Mick Roeg

Bad VFX Keyboard Fix

2003-04-02 by Bill Fletcher

Hi,

I have the standard VFX (not SD). I remember hearing how to get a
"free" fix for the original bad keyboard problem, but I'm not sure how
to do it or where to take it. I've not used this synth for years
because the keyboard kept going out and it would cost $135 each time to
replace it. I love the VFX though and would like to revive it. (I'm
in the Los Angeles area)

Thanks for any help,

Bill

Bill
The fix for the calibration error problem is done by hardwiring the circuit boards under the keyboard bed. I would suggest going to www.Route66studios.com to the ERROR 144 page and read the service bulletin that applies. You will want to find a good tech to do the repairs, Route 66 can supply the repair Doc for the fix.

I did post in the Files section of the VFX yahoo group
a zip file containing many technical informations on
the VFX calibration problem (http://groups.yahoo.com).

Hope you find it interesting.
