I have downloaded and installed the Sound Librarian software from the DX7
site that has been the topic of several group discussions, courtesy of
group member Mick. As he has pointed out in several past responses, this
librarian has over 1400 sounds for the VFX. I am having a problem getting
it to work and this is the first time I have tried to hook up my music
gear to my PC.
I'm hooked up with a midi driver via my computer serial port going to the
computer jack on my Roland Soundcanvas. I've got a midi cable going out
of the Soundcanvas into the VFXSD-1 midi in. The Sound Librarian 'sees'
my VFXSD-1 cause it showed up as 'VFX' when I started the Sound Librarian
software. I can't get my VFXSD-1 to receive the sys-ex dump from the
computer. This is probably something pretty simple/stupid. Suggestions??
FYI-I have set the VFXSD-1 as the "current instrument" in the Sound
Librarian. I have also set the VFXSD-1 to 'receive' sys-ex info and the
base channel is set to 1, same as the Librarian. This is a bummer, cause
I'm staring at all these patches I got from the Neopatch site, and I'm
chomping at the bit to play with them. Hopefully someone can point me in
a direction.

Your question using Soundlib

2003-05-10 by ixohoxi_music

Try doing this:
1.On the MIDI Control button: press twice to get to SYS-EX=ON or
change it to SYS-EX=ON if it is SYS-EX=OFF
2.Press the TEST button in the left corner of Soundlib and the VFX
should jump into EDIT Mode for that patch
3. You don't need to go into SYS-EX receive mode --- that is really
for receiving SYS-EX dumps from other synths to store on the VFX-SD
diskettes.

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Your question using Soundlib

Thanks for the reply. I have already done the three things you mentioned
below. Sys-ex is set to 'on' on the keyboard. When I press the 'test'
button in Soundlib the keyboard DOES NOT jump into 'edit mode'. Any other
ideas??

I am just getting started with SoundLib too. If you select
Midi...Receive, are your patches downloaded from the VFX to
SoundLib? If not, check your MIDI connections carefully. Can you
use the VFX to control anything on your computer? You do have two
MIDI connections, in to out and out to in, right?
