Patches: VFX vs. VFX-SD

Patches: VFX vs. VFX-SD

2003-05-03 by weidmanconsulting

Many years ago I sold all my synth gear except for my VFX. It sat
for a long time and I recently dusted it off and started fiddling
with it again.

I thought about downloading the Sounlib program and sound files
posted in the group's file area. My synth is the original VFX, not
one of the SD flavors. Will all the sounds work on my VFX or not?

Thanks,

Will

Hi Ho Will
I have an original VFX and YES all the patches will
work via sysex midi input. I currently have 1484
different voices and often change banks as a
diversion.
A bunch of new sounds will inspire you sometimes. By
all means, record your original patches to your
computer, then party on garth. A word of caution thou,

REPLACE YOUR BATTERY!!!!!! Nothing is as annoying as
having a battery leak onto a circuit board and
distroying traces. My Korg Poly 61 died in this way
and still resides in my closet. But you can find the
original patches for the VFX at the neomart website.
Good Luck........................Mick Roeg

[Ensoniq-VFX] Patches

2003-05-03 by Bill Fletcher

Mick,

I just ran a google search on "neomart" and nothing except foreign
characters came up. Can you be more specific about the neomart website?

Much appreciated. BTW, I've also just revived my VFX (not SD)(and
replaced the battery) and my midi programs and recording programs don't
work on the Mac G4 running OS X that I am now using. Anyone have
suggestions for a good (not too exotic or pricey) program for storing
patches and transfering via sys ex. I'm rusty on all of this, but
should remember how to do it once I get a midi program working again.

Thanks,

Bill

Hard Disk Recording

2003-05-03 by Bill Fletcher

Another thought. I used to use Deck II as my recording software (Mac)
and see now that they have an OS X native version that I can upgrade
for for $250. Any thoughts on how this new program works . . . good
effects (reverb - delays, etc) - and functionality. Or, are there
better recording programs out there? Actually I think the Roland
recorders would be nicer, but that's a few grand.

Thanks again,

Bill

Hey Bill
  The neomart address is:
http://neopatch.hypermart.net/
and the sound librarian is at:
http://www.thedx7.co.uk/index.html
The Sound Librarian works for a lot of different
keyboards. The neopatch site has a lot of patches that
work for the VFX. I currently am using my VFX as a
Mellotron, and an Arp 2600 lead patch.
I'm using Cakewalk Pro Audio for recording midi and
audio, but the Sound Librarian will store and transfer
patches. Once you get them downloaded and installed,
feel free to e-mail me with any questions and I'll
help you as much as I can............................Mick

Re: [Ensoniq-VFX-SD] Hard Disk Recording

http://www.ethanwiner.com/articles.html

is a good place for hard disk recording info. I am
running Windows and have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.03,
Sonar XL 2.0,
Cubase SX, Waves Gold plug-ins bundle, and it pretty
much covers my needs. Mac is not familiar to me, but
my brother runs a Korg D12 HDR and he is totally
pleased with it. I didn't like that you can only
record two inputs at a time.
I had to purchase an M-Audio Delta 1010 to input 8
channels to my computer from my Tascam 38 reel to
reel. I have received many compliments from friends
about the warm analog sound of my recordings and my
brother said I nailed the 70's progressive rock feel.
So getting a setup is a matter of what your looking
for. Research is the key.
                                       Mick
