What amp?

What amp?

2003-06-18 by hans-artmann@t-online.de

As I don't have many public performances I'm using headphones to the great
relief of my neighbours and my family. For public I was using a guitar amp
most of the times and, at home, I sometimes connect to my digital piano.
Both is not very satisfying. When I asked for a proper keyboard amp in some
music shops it came to me as a surprise that there is obviously not much in
the market. The internet too wasn't very helpful so far. Recommendations
range from taking a bass amp with at least a 15' speaker to a small PA. with
two boxes.
There are very few amps specified as 'keyboard amps'. The Behringer KX-12000
seems to be a good choice. However, for my home it would be kind of a
monster.

Can anybody advise me what to use best to please my neighbours ;-) ?
Are there any experiences with smaller equipment? Any suggestions are
welcome.

Hans

Check Barbetta amps www.barbetta.com. It's what I use live. Call Tony at Barbetta to find a dealer or mail order place near you.

A friend of mine just bought a Behringer and is pleased with it. If you
want a 15" speaker, they are all going to be monsters. The Rolands are also
nice and they have a smaller amp with a 10" speaker that sounds good.
Peavey also makes keyboard amps.

Hans,

I don't know if you can get Peavey equipment where you are, but I use a
Peavey KB/A-30, and am very satisfied with it. It's plenty loud, and sounds
pretty darned good. Roland also makes several excellent keyboard-specific
amps, and I believe Fender also has one.

Hans
 Since I use a multi keyboard setup, I have a Crate 10
channel mixer that I plug into a Peavey KB100/A. When
I do a small gig I only take 2 or 3 boards and the
Peavey. It has 3 imput channels and 60 watts of power.
Using the crate as a pre-amp it is loud enough to
compete with the whole band and cut through, yet has a
headphone jack for late night practice. I bought mine
used a couple of years ago and it has doubled as a
bass amp on many occasions too. I paid about $250 used
and it has paid for itself many times over. I've been
very happy with it and recommend it highly....................Roegster

Yamaha SD-60 is excellent for home and small halls. The new SD-100 works
better for larger halls

RE: Keyboard AMP??

2003-06-21 by Mr Bry

HANS,

Unfortunitly there arent any keyboard amps out there.
You must buy studio monitors. Those work excellent.
Buy the kind with amps already on them, that way u
have your volume on the speakers. Very nice choice.

Well, now. That's not right. There are many keyboard amps out there, from Peavey, Roland, Fender, Barbetta, Behringer and I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. Most of them have 2,3 or 4 channel mono mixers in them, and, a couple of the Rolands have fairly capable stereo mixers, and can be linked to provide stereo amplification systems designed specifically for keyboards.

There are two separate Yamaha MS-60 amps currently on Ebay. I've tried Peavey, Roland, and several others. I prefer the Yamaha to anything else. Great sound yet small and easy to carry.

True Jim, but i was just informing that if u get
studio monitors with the amp on them it would be
easier ...no worry about mixers. The clarity on
studio monitors is what you're looking for. No
compromise on sound quality playing with other
equipment to get that perfect sound. Studio monitors
are meant for giving you the true sound of an
instrument u play.
