Maybe I shouldnt ask this

but how many voices does the SDII have?
(after several years I still dont know...hmm..shame on me:-( )
I cant find it in the manual and i have read 21 and a member in the
list has 32

And another thing: hehe, i didnt know i could play three sound
together(accept in the "Presets"), WOW, that is very heavy

Do you have any favorites with 3 sounds together?

If your SD1 has "32voice" written under it, it is 32voice, if t
doesn't,, it has 21.

Good Luck,
Ralph :-)

Kenneth, sure glad you discovered you can layer up to 3 sounds. This is one of the coolest features of the VFX family of synths.
My favorite 3 layer sound is: bank: ROM 0 sound: WONDERS
; ; ROM 4 FRENCHORN
; ; ROM 8 SUN - N - MOON
then use the EFFECT 8 - VOICE CHORUS 2
also sounds cool with EFFECT 8 - VOICE CHORUS 1
Maybe you'll like it too.

The Following: -
VFX SDI
VFX SDII
SD1
All have 21 voices.

The Following:-
SD1 32voice
Has 32voice, but also has 21voice built in also.

The 32voice machine recognizes the discs inserted in it, and switches
accordingly. When you put a disk in it that was formatted on an older
21voice machine, your SD1 32v will switch to 21voice. When you re-insert
a 32voice disk, it will switch back. If you have 32voice, every time you
insert a disk, THEN access it, a message tells you whether it is 21 or
32 voices. If you are working on a project that is using 32voice, and
you insert a 21voice disk, you will loose eleven voices, and you must
re-insert a 32voice formatted disk to switch back to 32voice mode. There
is no other way to change between 21 and 32 voices. The 32voice version
of SD1 cannot format disk in 21voice, only 32voice format.

SD1 32voice has "32voice" written in a red strip under "SD 1. There is
no "VFX" written anywhere on the top casing. Not even small.

Hope this helps

Ralph :-)

Not ENTIRELY accurate.

The first Sd-1's were 21 voice.
They could be upgraded to 32 voice (which my first one was) there-fore
you could actually have a 32 voice SD-1 WITH-OUT having 32 voice
labeled on the front panel.

The later issue SD-1 (that were only 32 voice) had 32 voice in red on
the front panel....

The only way to tell on an older one is to insert a 32 voice format
disk in the drive and see what it says (as an earlier post explains -
it will say "32 voice mode enabled" if it is a 32 voice machine.)

hope that helps

cheers

I have two Ensoniq VFX's and the both have 60 voices,
and both have different voices via sound lib. That's
120 different voices. Do I win?
