Internal Lithium Battery

Someone mentioned a lithium battery when enquiring about a current/recent eBay item (Series III with 8 outs). What is this for? Time and Date, maybe?

My date resets itself upon each boot, so do I need a new battery. I also noticed the Fairlight suffers from the Millenium Bug...
