The lightpen on my IIx seems to be working fine but I got to thinking,
if it DID go bad, would that basically be the end of my Fairlight? I
mean, I know you can use it to some extent without the pen, but that
would kinda suck.

I had also a defective lightpen on my CMI IIX when I bought it
and I fixed it during the renovation work. So, you don´t need to get
panic because of broken lightpens, voice cards... They can be fixed
since the CMI IIX mainly consists of discrete electronic parts.
