ATT P. Vogel & Re: Series 3

2005-11-28 by paradyse_james

It s really a shame that Fairlight company cuted all contact with its
old products. I bought a IIx, 2 series3 and one MFX2, I was about to
buy a MFX3, but I realised they just wanted my money as they never
helped me with my previous models...this day they lost a client.
They don' t want to support our CMIs however many companies still does
for their previous products. Your fourty years old Nikon or Leika
camera has a trouble ? they STILL repair it. And I didn' t pay my Nikon
100.000 $ with promises of easy servicing ( remember the series III
brochure ? ) and effective upgrading***.

Now imagine a session with a famous film director; he saw the CMI: "
Waouuu !, can we use it on my movie ? "
I replied to him " sorry, it' s fried "

What will be his opinion about Fairlight ? what will he say to others
about fairlight ? Will they buy a dreamstation ? certainly not.
In France many of those people still thinks Fairlight has left market
in 1988.
Some of us are still doing professional work with their CMI, it' s a
very bad calcul to let them servicing alone their gear. It only gives
the worst image a company can have. its reputation was built with the
CMI, not with this steril Dream station, don' t forget that.
I' ll never buy a new product from Fairlight; I don' t want to read 300
pages of the service manual to repair it myself in 10 years.
I remember a few years before when fairlight made many investments in
other companies , that lead them to bankruptcy ( again ! ). They should
have kept their money to create a CMI servicing department with 3 guys
supporting and improving the CMI cards.
Now , if the actual Fairlight company doesn' t want to assume its
musical and creative past, they should change their name, just to be
sure that CMI owners stop whining.... What about Fairtools or
Digilight ? lol

*** upgrading for fairlight means sometimes downgrading: rev5 to rev6
you lose 100 khz sampling. Rev 11 to 12 ( mfx2 to mfx3 ) you lose all
the sampling capabilities. MFX3 to QDC : it sounds much worse( ! )
thats why we still need CMIs.
