SV: RE: [Fairlight-CMI] CMI Series III - Rev. 6.03

2007-08-09 by Brian Ronn

Hi S
I know what you are saying regarding upgrading to 9.34 specs. It's an expensive and an extensive modification. I like to keep my system as authentic as possible too, although it would be nice to be able to use jaz discs instead of these nearly obsolete 5.25" HD drives.
Maybe I've just not found the right way to format a new HD. Therefore, if anyone would like to add some helping information to how to format a new HD on a CMI III, rev. 6.03 system, please come forward.
Best regards
Brian

Dear Brian,
Thanks for your detailed description of all possible drives. It seems that I would have another problem once I find the HD: to format it J
I thought that would be possible straight away but from reading your email it is clear that it won’t be the case.
Apart from upgrading to the latest Rev 9.X I’m basically stuck with streaming tapes L
Unfortunately I can’t stretch to get the sum to pay for the upgrade to the latest specs.
Best regards,
S

Hi S
For your Fairlight CMI III, rev 6.03 you can use these drives
- Maxtor, model: XT1085, Capacity: 85 Mb, TLA 1091205 A, HDA 1050490, PCBA 1059055 (Internal 5.25" drive)
- If you have an external HD box with an MFM to SCSI converter card you'll be able to use this drive:
- Fujitsu M2263SA, Capacity 680 Mb (External 5.25" drive).
- Maxtor, model: XT-2190, seriel 2, capacity 190 Mb (I'm not sure if this drive is MFM or SCSI. External 5.25" drive)
S if you find a way to make backup of your drives besides to the tapestreamer (60 Mb) I'll be more than happe to know about it. Also if you have the format routine for harddrives on your system all be all ears ;-)
I feel I'm on borrowed time with my drives which is not backupable and I cannot format a new HD because of the lack of the format file on my system.
Best regards
Brian

Dear All,

I own a Fairlight III Rev. 6.03. Does anyone knows how big and what
kind the HD are that I can use? If possible I would like to avoid streaming
tapes and I know that if I upgrade to Rev 9.34 I can use up to 4GB, but at
the moment I cannot stretch to the upgrade price.
