The PC hooks up to the Fairlight using a RS232 port, so a cable will need to be made. This will either be a 25 pin (PC end) to 9 pin (Fairlight end) or a 9 pin to 9 pin depending on the connector used on the PC side. All the information is in the help file after you install the program, there are a number of ways of hooking it up depending on if you need to use existing keyboard. Quote from the help sheet . "The PC interfaces to the CMI via RS232 to the 'keyboard' input of the CMI. This is where a Preh keyboard normally plugs in, either on the music keyboard or directly to the mainframe. The PC's keyboard and mouse will replace the Preh keyboard and graphics pen for all CMI and OS9 functions. It does not, however, allow the typing of names into MFX console menus when connected to an MFX system:" [Steve] _____ From: Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of NYMO's Sent: Wednesday, October 17, 2007 22:40 To: Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Newbie MFX2 owner Hi Steve, How does it link to the fairlight ?? cheers N Y M O On 18/10/2007, at 12:25 PM, Steve Rance wrote: As far as I know the program works perfectly and is in use by many clients after the graphics tablet becomes unusable or the "nib" of the pen breaks. A little bit of an overkill but you could use any old PC, even one running Windows 98, you should be able to pick up such a beast for under $50.00 - But yes, it would have been nice if you could run it on the Mac :o) [Steve] _____ From: Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com [mailto:Fairlight- <mailto:Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com> CMI@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of NYMO's Sent: Wednesday, October 17, 2007 22:19 To: Fairlight-CMI@ <mailto:Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com> yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Newbie MFX2 owner Hi Steve, Thanx for that link...unfortunately i'm on an intel mac. does anyone know if this program works ok ?? I have now just aquired a mfx2 but it didn't come with the mfx2 controller. It boots up fine from an external HD on the turbo scsi port (but not the standard one) and I can get to the dir page. I am only really interested in the CMI side of it. Is there ANY way I can control this without having to get a mfx2 controller ?? Via a qwerty keyboard and mouse ?? Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers N Y M O
