Something I was involved with,
But don't really remember anything specific(!). It was most likely to be "that is what we could get" at the time.
Do remember we had a tough time getting a 16bit ADC for the sampling before sourcing a Matsushita device, and just as much trouble for DACs. Loretta Craig (the purchasing officer) sent an anniversary card to Burr-Brown after a year an ADC/DAC order was placed.....

I think because the CEM 3320 are end of life in 1983 ?
And is not 2044 but 2045 ;)
