I´m pretty much convinced that it is working properly. I´ve done numerous 
testing with lots of sources and everything except an 808-style or 909 kick 
sounds fine.

I guess I´m spoiled with the superior sampling on the Waveterm B ;-)

The CMI is 8 bit. You have to be very careful sampling into it.
Of course, it may be that yours has issues, but 8 bit sampling is pretty lo 
fi !
