Peter - Thanks! I'll give that a try. I was successful in formating and copying system disks, but as you mention my sound disks ended up full of eeeeeeeeeeeees with little free space. So it looks like I need to delete the data on the disk after the format and that should take care of it. Thanks! For example, the format used for system discs is the "new" format, whilst for the blank sounds disks it is "old". The old format maintains sounds disk compatibility between the IIX and the earlier series I and II. > > So for new, just type: format (return) CMI will say: format disk in drive 1? type y(return). > > For sounds disks you must first type: cfg o(return). Now if you type format, the CMI will respond with: format disk in drive 1 old format? again, type y(return) if you want this. Once completed, you need to put the formatted disk in the machine running CMI software. On page 2 the new disk would appear to have no free space, and be full of e@rholes. Type: d,*;y(return) (or something like this) to create a blank sounds disk. > > Incidentally, to copy disks between drives you can use the "backup" command. CMI will respond with "backup from drive 0 to 1?" Drive 0 is the left drive, 1 the right. > > Hope this is helpful, > > Peter Wielk > > Horizontal Productions in sunny Sydney > > > --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "Kirk Keyes" <Kirk@> wrote: > > > > Can I format floppies for my IIx using the QDOS 5.07 disk or do I need a special sound disk formatting disk? > > > > If I can use QDOS, what is the syntax I need to use? > > > > Thanks! > > Kirk > > >
