Hello Fabio
Thank you for your reply. It's very nice to hear you're still using them.
At the moment, I'm busy with other work and have not yet had the time to get cables, or to install the machine in a reasonable place, so sadly, I don't know when I'll get back to it.
Before, however, I've replaced the Dallas Chip. This was easily done, because it's socketed. So clock and configuration are maintained again.
The failing startup of serveral services had occured once again before that, and reseating the cards would not help - but clearing and then re-entering the configuration would. So the empty battery in the clock chip *may* have caused that problem, too.
Also, one of the two primary capacitors in the main power supply exploded - with a very loud bang. I
found its security valve open, and the additional plastic cover gone at the top, a few pieces from that between other parts - but no additional visible damage, esp. no fluid spilled (at least none that I could recognize).
Interestingly, the machine still worked after this. Maybe each of the primary caps handles half of the incoming AC voltage and the power supply is sufficiently overdimensioned.
I replaced the complete PSU with a spare for now - and also disconnected the secondary power supply because I don't have internal drives in the front bay. I've also been looking for quieter fans, but had to stop there due to a lack of available time...
Kind regards, Joerg
