RE: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: Series III MIDI

2004-09-07 by Peter Connelly (Core Design Ltd.)

Hi Chris,
I've tried all this and a few other MIDI checks so the only thing it can be is that the MIDI card on the Fairlight is faulty. All MIDI cables work and all IN/OUT's on both of my Midex-8's and the Delta 1010 work fine. Basically there is no MIDI information leaving the Fairlight (well whilst using the Fairlight's keyboard, that is), it will only receive... I've tried all the MIDI outs, but non work. Though, to me, this seems odd...
Thanks for all your help and advice.
Kind regards,
Peter

Subject: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: Series III MIDI

Following up on yesterday's thread regarding setting up a Series III
to act as a master keyboard with Cubase, the following set-up is the
one that I use to get round the midi-loop problem that the series III
keyboard has when used with an external sequencer with soft-thru set
on.

Please note, these instructions are for v9.34 screens.

1. Go to the System Configuration page: Escape F2
2. Create a 'dummy' instrunment, for example: ic Master_Kbd
3. Press F3 to enter the Midi Map page

You will see that the dummy instrument will be set as default to
receive on channel 1 for each of the 4 midi receive ports (there will
be a vertical line in the first position - channel 1 - in each port
display).

4. Remove this by tabbing the cursor to the field next to the
instrument name which should look something like 1................
and pressing the 'sub' key. This should remove channel 1 and this
field should now be blank i.e. 16 dots. You will also see that the
vertical bar for channel 1 under Port A has disappeared.

5. Repeat the above for Ports B, C and D. Once complete, this has
effectively set the instrument / voice to 'local-off'

6. Save this set-up as a .SY file, which you can load on booting the
Series III.

You can now load voices into this set-up and play them from Cubase /
logic etc. (without causing midi loops), by leaving the cursor on the
dummy 'Master_Kbd' voice in the SC page and selecting the desired
channel from within the host sequencer.

Trust this is useful.

Chris.
