Fairlight IIx crackle in audio

My IIx has developed a crackling sound when playing back samples, 
sounds almost as if the sound was being played back on a dirty 
record or something similar. everything else functions fine. Does 
anyone have any insight into what may cause this or where to look? 
Any help would be appriciated.

I have had the same problem in the past with my IIX and the problem was only some bad contacts in the card's connectors on the backplane.
