Formatting 8" Floppies on Series III

Formatting 8" Floppies on Series III

2005-02-08 by Peter

Hi everyone,

I've noticed formatting floppies on a Series III it takes quite
quite some time. Around 10+ mins per disc. Is this right, or is
there possibly something wrong with my drive?

I'm doing this in OS9, but without actually 'fully' quitting from
CMI, ie by pressing "$", instead of typing "QUIT". I might try a
full quit, see what happens...

Does anyone use Nashua 8" discs? That's what I'm using, but don't
know if they're a decent quality.

Also, on my last format I got "number of good sectors: $0010C9". Is
this about right?

Cheers,
Peter

Peter,

for reference, formatting/partitioning external SCSI HD's
on a Series III takes me about 25 minutes or more per HD.
I believe it is recommended to exit CMI software completely when
doing formatting, not just shell out.

David

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
