Couple of HD/SCSI Questions

Hi everyone,
If anyone could answer me the following questions (from a friend of mine), that would be grand:
1) Do you know the SCSI setup particulars for the main system Winchester HD on a Series III? ID # (I'm assuming this is /c0)? Parity Checking?
2) Apparently, the Series III was using SCSI a year before the SCSI spec existed or was agreed upon. If this is the case, how come the Series III had it or did the few first machines use MFM or the so-called ST506 which are controlled by an Emulex adaptor board?
