racked Series III on eBay

This one is legit:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7328197933

No router, so it's hard to tell (for me at least) if it's an earlier or
later model.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It looks very much as
if someone has taken a Series III mainframe and chopped it up to fit
in 19" rack?!?

Was this something Peter W was involved in if it's in the UK?

I've seen a couple of PPG Waves modified this way, but never a Series
III! How bizarre!

How do I upload photographs onto the group? I've pulled my III MFX2
rackmount out of the cooler cabinets now so I'll take some photos to
compare. It looks *very* different to this one!

no router, no digital input . So I bet its a rev 5 or 6.
no picture screen boot ... is it still working ? . The previous items (
fairlight and synclavier ) sold by this seller were sometimes in bad
condition ( rusty hard disk )
but at 50 gbp , the musical keyboard will be a nice table lol

Hi all,

For info, this Series 3 belong to Chris Hughes and Ross Collum ...

For those who are interested, after many hours of work and
the support of Malte for the software side and JB for the
hardware, the Synclavier 2 I bought from Chris Hughes is now
fully functional. It sounds like crazy !

Regards.

Racked Series III on eBay

Hi All...

Yes, I did build this machine for Chris Hughs, and it's exactly that -
a series III in a 19" rack case (the very first I, or possibly anyone
else ever made). It's an old rev 5 machine with a Newbury Data 140
Mbyte drive. It might be worth buying for the right price, but unless
you were going to upgrade it, you'd have to worry a little about it's
long term viability...

Regards,

Peter Wielk

Hi Peter,
so Chris Hughes had 3 Fairlight's (1 IIX, 2 Series III) ?

I ran into Curt Smith from TFF in L.A. this past Christmas time,
I had a quick chat with him as a TFF fan, I asked him if
they would be working with Chris Hughes again. He said
Roland was back in the UK talking with Chris about future
projects together. So hopefully they will do more work together.

that rack Series III is really interesting looking.

cheers,

David
