Syco Demo

Syco Demo

2003-09-22 by Colin Ross

Hi all
The demo of the Fairlight at Syco was a very rare single figures
Series IIL. This was the model between the IIx and Series III. This
model had a Hard Drive in it. This should give us all hope that the
Series II, IIx can be upgraded if someone can come up with a plan to
get HD's working in them. The Rock group Queen had a IIL and so did
Nick Rhodes, these are the only ones I know off. I know were the
Queen one is but the HD packed up years ago. I would love to know
were the one in the demo went to. I wonder if Peter Wielk could tell
us, I must ask him.
The Vince Clarke demo is of great quality for the age, I transferred
it to a Wave file.
Thanks Chris.
Chris I would love to know what is on all of that video. The
Fairlight video was a gem of a find. I remember the Fairlight on
Tomorrow's World (TWICE) and The South Bank Show. If anyone knows
were I can get these, this would be amazing. Please come back to me
ASAP about the Syco video. I'm a lover of all thing vintage. Do you
have any more audio of other bands around before or after with
anyother instruments.
Many thanks and best regards
Colin

We had some discussion about this earlier. According to Peter Wielk
the series III HD card should be hardware compatible with the IIx,
but nobody has tried it yet. (a bit dangerous) Also something should
be done about the OS. I heard that OS9 is supposed to work on a IIx,
but would it allow a HD to be used?

Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Patrick
In the video he is using Rev 19 or possibly Rev 20. When I got my IIx I was
told that the Rev was 20 and it was'nt released for the Series IIx. I was
also told Rev 19 was the last supported version. The guy also stated that
Rev 20 only had Midi improvements. I'm starting to wonder has Rev 20 got
anything else in the software that when you add a hardware card for the HD
and HD itself they start talking to each other. The guy in the demo (Kendal
Wrightson) is the person we need to find or someone who was in the know at
Fairlight from around that time. The video shows that it was running still
on Rev 19 / 20 and I've noticed that it also has a 5.25 floppy in between
the 8" floppy and HD. This video has started me thinking and I would love to
know.
Best regards
Colin

Hi Colin,

I don't think it's a 5.25 floppy drive. It looks like the DC600 Tape streamer I have in my Series
III.

Anyway, is there anyone in the group who has some infos, pictures, or docs about the IIL version of
the CMI ?

Best regards.

    Laurent.

Good question Laurent. If anyone has any info on the II L please let the
forum know. I would love to put it on the forum.
Cheers
Colin
