Sounds cool, but the idea (to me in anyway) of owning a CMI is not just because of its sound (which is fab and unique), it's to do with the history and classic value these machines have!

Here is a good tip --Im running 4 SampleCell cards with TDM and a D24 and two DSP farms for just a few bucks that is amazing
I have used the Series III on a few records but this cheap Protools TDM system sounds better.
Go for a D24 card as they are cheap compared to a Mix core and work fine on OSX , OS9 and XP
You can even get a DSP Mix farm and this turns the D24 into a Mix core
Here are the Ebay average prices
888/24 Audio I/O $500-600 24 bit
DSP farm rev QC $150-200 each
D24 Protools Core Card $300-400
Sample Cell Cards with TDM module $40 each
cheers Dave

Well to me, it seems like a great price. I'm very surprised it hasn't
sold yet, especially it being a 9.34 system. I think the guy is better
off with a lower starting price. I've had problems selling things on
ebay in the past because of high starting bids...

What is the story with the series III on ebay ?? I am considering the
purchase of a series III but this one has been up for auction on ebay
serveral times with no bids. Is this not a good deal or is there
something I am missing. I would prefer my purchase to include the
keyboard and original monitor but I am unsure of what I should pay? I
currently own two series IIx's and use them daily in my home studio
setup.
Any info on whether to buy it or where to purchase a good series III
would be greatky appriciated.

The big problem is buying a series III off Ebay is the risk on the machine being dead on arrival.
Due to its size with transport and being mishandled and stored incorrectly
At best your chances are marginal
Normally brokers sell these and they only want to take your bucks.
I would say its a different story if you know the person who is selling it ie another list member.
