Fairlight IIx sound swap?????

Fairlight IIx sound swap?????

2006-07-27 by Kevin Kelley

I have recently found several disks for my IIx that I did not even
know that I had! With those sound disks I found several blank
unformatted disks as well. This got me thinking, I love to hear new
samples on my IIx, and it can be very inspiring.
Are there any legal or logistical issues with users on this list
wanting to swap disk copies? From time to time I see (on other lists)
someone offers a sound bank or sample set for trade and always some
good citizen offers up the opinion that these disks or sound sets were
copy protected and you will need to get the creators permission before
proceeding. Is this the case with IIx libraries as well?
If the above is not an issue is this proposal something that would
interest IIx users on this list? I would like to setup a list were
users can post what they have and others can browse the list. If for
nothing other than to see how many disks are out there that maybe we
do not know of.
And please pardon my ignorance but I believe that the series III can
read IIx disks as well (but I could be wrong on that since I do not
own a series III).

Hi Kevin,

This is something I have been wanting to do for ages. A central sound bank
list for all CMI 2X users to view would be very handy. It has been proven
possible to be able to digitally dump a CMI 2X sound to a modern PC but not
from the PC to the CMI 2X. If this was possible then all sounds could be
downloaded online and then sent to the CMI 2X for playing.
If you are willing to put the time in by all means " go for it " !

Cheers,

James Thomson

Hi Kevin,

Series II sounds can be played on the Series III but only after they
have been converted using the v23 utility (I've done this several
times). This is due to the machines using different Operating
Systems. Whether they sound the same of course, I wouldn't know as I
don't own a Series II!

Regards,
Chris.
