Lightpen for IIx wanted

Lightpen for IIx wanted

2007-05-15 by Hans Nijhof

It's an open door and often asked before. But is there anyone who
wants to sell a lightpen for the IIx broken or working? If not, does
anybody know the brand/type of the connector which connects the cable
to the monitor?

Thanks in advance

Hans

Hi Hans,

I don't know the brand off-hand, but it may be listed in the technical
service manual for the II(x). If it then cannot be found anymore, you
might consider replacing it with anything that has enough pins. I recall
you currently have no pen at all ?

Regards,\
Harald.

I have a CMI sitting in my junk pile. Its complete but will not boot up. I
suspect the disc drives are 60Hz and I am in Europe with 50Hz AC.
Does anybody know if there is a database of CMI serial numbers available on
the web?

I don't know anyplace to buy a new lightpen, but I do know where to
find the connector used on the cable/monitor.

It's made by Viking, and is called a Thorkom Circular Connector.
Here's a link to the PDF catalog:

http://www.vikingconnectors.com/images/thorkomcatalog.pdf

You can also find a list of distributors on Viking's "Manufacturer's
Reps" page:

http://www.vikingconnectors.com/Distributors.html

Hope that helps.
Joe

Hi Andy,

I presume you want to look up who owned the unit based on the serialnumber
? Alas, I do not know of such a list. There is however a list of current
owners in this forum. Check the 'database' and 'polls' section.

If you can find replacement 50Hz drives it should work just fine.
Are you sure they are 60Hz ?

Harald.

Hi Hans -

The connector is a Viking Thorkom model TKP-7. As for the backshell (in the
monitor itself), I'm not sure about. More info here:

Hope this helps.

Best -

Frank

Hi Hans
I had the same last year and the address in LA (see last answer from
Laurent)was not responding anymore. with my tech we have decide to buy
a medical lightpen that was near the same as the IIx and to customize
it. It's now working fine. So just in case you have no other solution,
I can maybe ask him to create antother lightpen if needed.
Cheers
Pascal
